Curriculum Journey
We have designed our curriculum to bring out the best of our pupils, ensuring they prepared to take the next stage in their educational journey. That journey may be to continue through to GCSE within our Senior Schoolor moving on to another school at the end of Year 6 or Year 8.
We are fortunate to have a staff body in which many staff are qualified to senior school level, with the ability to teach up to GCSE or indeed A Level. This allows us to provide depth and expertise in subjects as the children reach the top end of the Prep School and into the new senior school provision at Halstead St Andrew’s. Many children currently leave the school having studied GCSE level work and beyond.
In 2024, all our Year 6 pupils gained a place into their senior schools, with glowing reports of how the children presented themselves during their interviews. As well as achieving many offers, well over 100, Year 6 gained 37 scholarships, more than 20 of which being academic awards but also include sport, drama and art scholarships. This is a wonderful achievement, testament to the 'Excellent' Inspection gradings and much hard work from staff and pupils alike. Our Year 8 scholarship awards will be announced in due course as many of the scholarship assessments for this year group are still ongoing.
Our Senior School will be based on academic rigour coupled with a supportive and nurturing environment. The aim is to continue the high academic standards and values that we currently adopt in the Prep School model into the new senior section.
Success can not only be defined by pupils gaining top grades or scholarships, it is also about the value added that a school provides. At Halstead St Andrew’s we take great pride in supporting a pupil to achieve beyond their expectations. This is something we do exceptionally well and are very proud of all the pupils’ achievements.
Whilst we aim for many of our current pupils remaining with Halstead St Andrew’s into the Senior School, we recognise that parents may want to investigate different options for senior school. We will support parents on this journey with meetings in Year 5 and Year 6, ensuring each pupil is entered into senior school assessments that are right for that pupil. During the meetings with the senior teams, we will investigate all the options open to your child and make recommendations based on academic potential, social dynamics and your child’s interests. The aim is to make what is a highly daunting and pressured process as easy as possible for parents.
