Music

There is a very high standard of music at St. Andrew’s and the facilities reflect the importance the school places on this subject as a valuable part of the curriculum.

There are six music rooms, two of which are general teaching rooms with keyboards, instruments, manuscript boards and computers. The remaining four rooms are used for instrumental lessons given by the peripatetic teachers. They regularly offer tuition in piano, violin, cello, flute, oboe, trumpet, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, french horn, cornet, trombone, guitar and singing.

All children from Nursery onwards are taught music each week and every pupil from Year 3 onwards learns to play an instrument: Years 3 and 4 the recorder, Years 5 and 6 tuned percussion, and Years 7 and 8 the keyboard.

There are flourishing ensemble groups, choirs and an orchestra, all of which have many opportunities to perform in the school, publicly and in competition.
